NASSAU, Bahamas — June 24, 2025 – Following a full-house premiere at Fusion Superplex and a powerful opening weekend, Kidnapping Inc. continues to generate buzz for its bold storytelling, razor-sharp wit, and unflinching take on power, greed, and survival in modern-day Haiti. Now playing for a limited time, filmmakers are urging audiences to show their support for the Sundance-selected film and experience the ride for themselves.
The film’s Gala Premiere, held on Thursday, June 19 and Fusion Superplex, drew an impressive crowd, including Haitian Chargé d'Affaires William Exantus, lead writer and producer Gilbert Mirambeau Jr., who traveled to The Bahamas for the event, Bahamas Film Commissioner Clarence Rolle, and Miss Bahamas Universe 2021, Chantel O’Brian.
Bahamian filmmaker Kareem J. Mortimer, who executive produced the film through the Los Angeles-based company Best Yet Entertainment, which he leads, described the project as “high-caliber artistry that is sharp, bold, and unapologetically authentic.” He added, “Films like Kidnapping Inc. don’t just entertain, they open doors for our stories to be seen and valued on the global stage.”
Mirambeau Jr., whose screenplay took more than ten years to bring to life, emphasized the depth behind the film’s dark comedy. “This film will make you laugh, but it’s built on truth,” he said. “It offers a glimpse into real and universal struggles including socioeconomic inequality, corruption, the hunger for power, told through a Haitian lens with humour and intensity. It’s a wild ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat while saying something that matters.”
Kidnapping Inc. follows two bumbling criminals hired for a seemingly straightforward abduction in Port-au-Prince. What starts as a simple job quickly spirals into chaos, unraveling a dark and dangerous political conspiracy. Blending sharp satire with gripping suspense, the film has drawn comparisons to City of God and Pulp Fiction, while offering a fearless look at Haiti’s complex social and political landscape. The film features dialogue in French and Haitian Creole, with English subtitles.
Among the film’s most enthusiastic supporters was Miss Bahamas Universe 2021, Chantel O’Brian, who not only attended the premiere but returned for a second screening just two days later - this time bringing along six friends. “The second time around, I laughed even harder! It’s that good,” she said. “This film is clever, fearless, and so relevant. I truly hope Bahamians, Haitians, and Haitian-Bahamians show up and support this incredible work of art.”
Cultural advocate Louby Georges was blown away by the film, describing it as "a complete masterpiece" and adding, "now I see why it received so many international nominations."
Directed by Haitian filmmaker Bruno Mourral, Kidnapping Inc. has already earned more than 20 award nominations, including nods at the Sundance Film Festival and the Global Dominican Film Festival. Distributed by Best Yet Entertainment, the film blends biting humor and sharp social commentary with a cinematic style that’s gritty, fresh, and unapologetically Caribbean.
Kidnapping Inc. is currently playing at Fusion Superplex for a limited time only. Its continued run depends on local turnout. Audiences are encouraged to show up, spread the word, and help prove that there is strong demand for world-class Caribbean stories, told by us, for us.
